Jimmie Johnson

Jimmie Johnson was born on September 17, 1975 in El Cajon, California. He is married, his wife's name is Chandra.  Jimmie started riding motorcycles at five years old.  He was competing and winning a few years later.  He moved up to four-wheelers and was competing in three off-road leagues at one time.  He started racing cars at eighteen years old.

In 1998, Jimmie Johnson joined both the NASCAR and the American Speed Associations (ASA).  He was twenty-three years old when he won Rookie of the Year and finished fourth over all in the ASA.  He also started competing in the Busch Series races where he only only won one race in 2001.  Johnson was only an okay competitor in the Busch Series.

Johnson moved up NASCAR's Nextel cup series in 2002 and came in fifteenth place in the Daytona 500.  From there things only got better.  He was the only driver to ever be in the top five in points every year for the first five seasons in the Nextel Cup.  In 2006, he won NASCAR's Nextel Cup Championship.  He is currently in the top twelve in points and a contender for this year's (2007) Nextel Cup Chase.  He has six wins this season so far, three poles, sixteen top fives and nineteen top tens.  Jimmie Johnson drives the #48 Lowes Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports.  He is a teammate to the #24 driver Jeff Gordon, who talked Rick Hendrick into taking Jimmie on as a driver when he saw his potential as a driver.  Gordon is not only his teammate but also part owner of Johnson's car.

Jimmie Johnson is a San Diego Chargers fan and a Padres fan.  He hosts his own radio show called Not What You Expected.  Favorite shows include Friends and That 70's Show.

The city of San Diego proclaimed February 1, 2007 as "Jimmie Johnson Day".
